Comparison:Makita 2704N vs MLT100N

Two Makita table saws, same blade diameter, a clear family resemblance… yet not quite the same personality. The 2704N is built for job sites where you’re ripping hardwood all day long, backed by a strong motor. The MLT100N, on the other hand, plays the middle ground: lively enough for serious work, but easier to move around which matters when you’re constantly hauling your gear from place to place. Both suit skilled DIYers as well as pros, though not in the same way.

Real-life test: Makita 2704N vs MLT100N

He mostly works on renovation sites and regularly cuts panels, does ripping, and handles hardwood pieces. He tested each saw for half a day straight on solid oak and 18 mm plywood.

Experience with the Makita 2704N?

With the 2704N, Laurent immediately felt the machine had no hesitation. On oak boards, the blade bites into the material without slowing, and the higher speed is obvious when you chain straight cuts one after another. He finds the saw stable, heavy enough not to budge even a millimeter when pushing a wider sheet. The soft start helped him stay in control even when moving fast, something he values during rush periods. The only thing that wore him down a bit through the afternoon was the noise: he had to keep his earmuffs on the whole time, and it “gets on your nerves,” as he puts it.

Experience with the Makita MLT100N?

Switching to the MLT100N, Laurent immediately noticed how much easier it was to handle. The carrying handle helped him set it up quickly, and the extensions made working with large plywood sheets simpler. On hardwood, he could feel it had a bit less punch than the 2704N, but for about 80% of his tasks that day, it performed just fine. The lower noise level surprised him “changes the whole mood,” he says. Angle adjustments are smooth, nothing binds, which let him work more relaxed. However, during repeated, sustained cuts, he felt a slight drop in speed as the afternoon went on nothing dramatic, but noticeable.

I’ve been using it in the workshop for a few months now and it keeps up the pace really well. The power is there, even on dry oak. The soft start is genuinely pleasant in day-to-day use.
Agnès R.
Good precision and reliable adjustments. It’s a bit louder than I expected, but once it’s running, it stays stable and reassuring. Perfect for my regular woodworking jobs.
Loïc P.
It’s solid, delivers clean cuts, nothing to complain about in terms of performance. The weight, however, is noticeable when you need to move it. For a fixed setup, it’s spot-on.

Easy to carry, and the extensions are a real plus on the job site. The power is more than enough for standard ripping. A bit slower than a higher-end model, but perfectly respectable.
Marion D.
The angle adjustment is simple and precise, which saved me a lot of recalibration. The lower noise level is genuinely pleasant. I use it several times a week without any issues.
Thomas G.
Good machine, versatile enough for my needs. The adjustable height is surprisingly useful. It’s just missing a bit of punch on certain woods, but overall it’s reliable.
